Frozen ShoulderFrozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is a condition in which the shoulder or shoulders become increasingly more stiff Symptoms may be noted with or without a previous injury to the shoulder. The condition is more common in females than males, and people with diabetes are more susceptible. Adhesive capsulitis has three classic stages: 1. Early painful stage (freezing) This stage lasts 2-9 months on average and increasing pain limits motion. 2. Stiffening stage (freezing) Lasting 4-12 months, patients note a progressive loss of motion. 3. Recovery stage (thawing) A gradual increase in motion and decrease in pain are noted over a period of 5-24 months. Back |
