Hip Bursitis

When the small pads which help reduce friction between the bones, tendons, and muscles of the side of the hip become irritated, a person will be said to have bursitis. Trochanteric bursitis usually occurs in middle aged and elderly women because of the width of their pelvis but is also found in long distance athletes due to overuse or their running mechanics. Some complain of a snapping at the lateral hip when they flex their hip or simply stand up. Stairs are usually painful also. Treatment generally involves controlling the inflammation, limiting provocative activities, and restoring normal tissue length and strength.
