Low / Mid Back Pain

Back strain or thoraco-lumbar pain is extremely prevalent. It will affect most of us at some point in our lives, about 80%. The causes or contributing factors are just as numerous. It is usually described as a sense of pain or tightness across the lower back. At times it may spread upward toward the shoulder blades or lower, around the hips or into the gluteal area. Most true strains respond well to a brief period of rest and over the counter anti-inflammation medication. However, when the injury or pam is more severe or when the pain is traveling further down the legs, physical therapy is very effective in reducing pain, relieving muscle spasm, promoting improved mobility and directing patients through a trunk stabilization program to help prevent future episodes.
